January 21, 2021, Glendora, CA –  CalPortland is proud to announce that six plants have achieved the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry.  The ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry recognizes plants that achieve a 10% reduction in energy intensity within five years. The average energy intensity reduction for all six plants was 29.28 percent.

By achieving the ENERGY STAR Challenge, CalPortland’s Queen Creek, AZ; LAX, CA; Normandie, CA; San Luis Obispo, CA; Troutdale, OR; and Duwamish, WA   plants continue to demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment by improving energy performance with ENERGY STAR.

“Achieving the ENERGY STAR Challenge for Industry recognizes the accomplishments and dedication of our six plants to improve energy efficiency,” said Allen Hamblen, President/CEO of CalPortland. “We are honored to be recognized by the EPA for our commitment to strong energy management practices that produce results for the environment and the community.”

Examples of energy reduction actions by each of the six facilities are identified below along with their corresponding percentage energy intensity reduction from baseline:
