The Scheerer Aggregates Plant recently celebrated a major safety milestone after being named the #1 Aggregates Operation for 2025, earning the prestigious President’s Award from CalPortland. The recognition highlights the plant’s outstanding commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

This marks the second time Scheerer Aggregates has received the President’s Award, previously earning the honor in 2021.

To celebrate the achievement, the team gathered for a special appreciation lunch, where leadership thanked employees for their commitment to looking out for one another and maintaining a culture rooted in safety. Each employee also received a special token of appreciation for their contributions.

The team attributes their success to a strong culture built on a shared commitment: “We make it safer for the next guy.” Employees consistently look for opportunities to improve work areas and ensure safe conditions not only for themselves, but also for the next shift or the next person who drives on that haul road or operates equipment.

As part of its ongoing safety initiatives, the plant recently introduced a SLAM safety contest across its locations. Employees who identify a hazard, correct it, and document the improvement with before-and-after photos and an explanation are entered into a contest recognizing the best safety improvements. Quarterly winners receive an additional safety token that can be redeemed toward CalPortland company prizes.

Scheerer Aggregates’ achievement is part of a broader safety success across the region. Scheerer Aggregates, Oro Grande Aggregates, and Mojave Aggregates have collectively recorded zero injuries and more than 100,000 safe man-hours over the past two years — and counting.

These accomplishments reflect the dedication of CalPortland employees who continue to prioritize safety, accountability, and teamwork across every operation.
