Glendora, CA December 17, 2020 – The 2020 CalCIMA Excellence in Safety Awards were announced December 15th during CalCIMA’s Annual Meeting of Members. CalPortland’s Rocky Canyon Aggregate plant was awarded the 2020 CALCIMA Excellence in Safety Award – Small Aggregate Mine.

The Rocky Canyon plant is dedicated to a safety culture characterized by CalPortland’s “SLAM” program- Stop, Look, Analyze and Manage. As a result, the facility has worked over 202,000 labor hours injury free, with its last recordable injury in 2011.

“This award and the historical safety record of the plant, demonstrate how the hard-working employees at the Rocky Canyon Quarry live the CalPortland culture of safety every day,” said Danny Deveraux, VP/GM Central Coast Materials Division. “They are a dedicated team that looks out for each other and want to improve every day.”

The Excellence in Safety Awards annually recognize mines, plants, and individuals for their exemplary contributions to safety leadership, innovation, and communication, and how well they extend safety beyond their workplace setting. Winners are selected by a judging panel of committee members.
