The National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA) announced the recipients of the Environmental Excellence Awards, which recognizes operations that actively demonstrate a commitment to the exemplary use of environmental controls and systems. CalPortland is proud to announce the Pioneer Aggregates plant in DuPont, Washington and the Rio Rico Plant in Rio Rico, Arizona were both honored with the Silver Award.

“We are thrilled to recognize the best of the best in environmental responsibility by today announcing the winners of our Environmental Awards of Excellence,” said NSSGA President & CEO Michael Johnson. “NSSGA’s members continue to show their commitment to the environment every day in their business operations.  Our industry has much to be proud of in the efforts of these award winners, and we congratulate them on a job well done.”

The NSSGA also announced the Community Relations Excellence Awards, which recognizes producers’ achievements in enhancing the public’s perception of the industry and the individual producer’s operation through their community involvement. CalPortland was awarded the Silver Award for the Orange Grove plant in Tucson, Arizona and Pioneer Aggregates Plant in DuPont, Washington.

NSSGA CEO Michael Johnson says: “Aggregates producers are engrained in the fabric of the communities in which they operate, which is a result of the good paying jobs they offer and the steps they take to be positive, active members of the areas they call home. The more communities know about the value aggregates producers provide for the people and projects in their communities, the more they appreciate what these companies offer to our way of life each and every day.” The NSSGA’s Environmental Excellence Awards were announced during NSSGA’s Legislative & Policy Forum, held virtually September 21-23rd.

Congratulations to the teams at each of the plants for their hard work and dedication to the environment and communities in which they operate. Job well done!
